9mm Standard Handgun Jacketed Firearm Die Set

Precision 9mm Jacketed Bullets with a Luger Ogive (~0.875-E) for Superior Performance

The 9mm Standard Handgun Jacketed Firearm Die Set from Corbin is designed to create high-performance jacketed bullets with a Luger ogive (~0.875-E) and open tip design. Ideal for precision handgun ammunition, this die set allows you to craft jacketed bullets that deliver consistent accuracy and terminal performance for a variety of applications, from self-defense to target shooting.

Key Features:

  • Luger Ogive (~0.875-E): The Luger ogive design offers a balance of accuracy and aerodynamics. Its sleek curve reduces drag, providing a flatter trajectory and improved stability, which is especially advantageous in semi-automatic handguns. This nose shape is well-suited for a range of applications, from target shooting to self-defense, delivering consistent expansion and optimal energy transfer upon impact.
  • Open Tip Design: The open tip allows for controlled expansion, making this bullet ideal for hunting, defense, or precision target shooting, offering a good balance between terminal performance and accuracy.
  • Precision Swaging: Using Corbin’s advanced swaging technology, this die set ensures that your bullets are crafted with the utmost precision, resulting in consistent weight, shape, and performance with every round.

Advantages of the Luger Ogive:

  • Improved Aerodynamics: The Luger nose shape offers better flight stability, reducing drag and providing a flatter trajectory compared to more blunt designs.
  • Enhanced Accuracy: The smooth curve of the Luger ogive enhances the bullet's consistency and accuracy at varying ranges, making it a great choice for target shooters and hunters alike.
  • Effective Terminal Performance: Paired with the open tip design, the ogive helps the bullet expand reliably upon impact, offering controlled energy transfer that is beneficial for self-defense and hunting.

Steps for Making 9mm Bullets:

  1. Prepare Your Materials: Gather your Corbin Precision Jackets (J-38-380 or J-38-500), a 0.312" lead rod, and the Corbin 9mm die set.
  2. Cut the Lead Rod: Cut the lead rod to the desired length for your bullet's core, ensuring it fits into the jacket.
  3. Swage a core: Place the cut lead into the core swage die to create a lead core that is the exact grain weight and diameter for your chosen jacket.
  4. Insert the Lead Core: Place the lead core into the jacket.
  5. Seat the Core in the Jacket: Using the core seating die, apply pressure to the core and expand the jacket to its final diameter.
  6. Finish the Bullet: Place the jacket and seated core into the final point form die to shape the Luger nose of the bullet.
  7. Inspect Your Bullet: Check the final product for grain weight, consistency and accuracy before using them for your intended purpose.

Additional Products Required:

  • Jacket Material: You can buy jackets from Corbin's, or make jackets from copper tubing using Corbin copper tube jacket maker die sets.
  • Lead Rods: Pure lead rods for the core material, matching the inside diameter of the jacket being used and weight requirements.
  • Swage Lube: Essential for reducing friction during the swaging process and prolonging the life of the dies.

You can produce 9mm jacketed bullets with a flat base, open tip design with a Luger nose (~0.875-E).

In addition to the die set, you'll need a 0.312" lead rod and Corbin Precision Jackets (J-38-380 or J-38-500) depending on the desired length of your projectiles. You will also need a press that matches your die set type.

The die set allows for the creation of various bullet weights. You can adjust the amount of lead core you insert into the jacket to achieve your desired weight. You can also shorten the length of a jacket using the Corbin jacket trim die (ET-2).

The number of bullets you can produce is virtually unlimited, depending on the availability of jackets and lead. Once you have these materials, you can make as many bullets as you need.

While the basic process involves inserting the lead core into the jacket and applying pressure with the die set, it’s recommended to follow the detailed instructions on Corbin's website for best practices and techniques.
